Essay: Martin Luther's response to the Black Death in Germany 1527
In the year 1527, the nation of Germany was dealing with the epidemic of the boubonic plague (also known as Black Death).  An individual with a heavy conscience wrote a letter to Martin Luther asking if it was right for a Christian to flee the areas that were infected, or if they should stay.  This link is to a portion of Luther's reply.  While the medical knowledge of his day was significantly less, his biblical insight and scriptural advice is helpful to consider still today.  This essay is made possible by the faculty of Asia Lutheran Seminary (WELS).  It is a translation that was published during the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) in China.  It is included here for your benefit and personal reflection.
