Hurricane Harvey
Support for Hurricane Harvey...
The sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. - Malachi 4:2
  • We give thanks to God that the rain has stopped and the sun is shining once again in Houston and so many of the areas that have been effected by Hurricane Harvey.
  • We give thanks to God that his Son, Jesus Christ, has never stopped shining on the people of Houston -- and all people -- since he is the Savior of the world.
  • We give thanks to God that WE NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LET OUR LIGHT SHINE on the people of Houston and others who have been impacted by this storm.
Beautiful Savior works with Christian Aid and Relief -- an organization whose sweet spot is helping after the first initial response and outpouring of support.  While the immediate need for help is evident now, once the news reports fade and life gets busy, the impact of the disaster can easily fade in our minds.  But, there will be great needs that remain for weeks, months, and longer.  Also, if you have wanted to help out, but the shelters have said they don't need more volunteers, or the donation center is already overwhelmed, Christian Aid & Relief is an organization for you to consider supporting.

Christian Aid & Relief has been helping with disaster and humanitarian needs for decades.  It is the relief organization for our national church body, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), which has been sharing the good news of Jesus and helping people since 1850.  The organization is structured with volunteers who work at all levels of its administration so as to maximize people's heart of service and so that the greatest amount of financial support is able to support those in need, rather than paying those who distribute it.  There is only one paid staff position.

Your donations to Christian Aid & Relief will be used to secure the specific resources and supplies requested by the people who have been directly affected.  The relief organization has already set up a network of churches in the hardest hit areas.  These churches are assembling teams of volunteers to connect with the people in their communities and listen to the actual needs that they have.  In the coming weeks there will be specific requests for things such as specialized clean-up supplies, reconstruction materials, and daily sustenance for those who have lost their livelihood.  Rather than providing items that they may or may not need, this more patient approach can get people exactly what they need and sooner than they would have been able to get it if they were on their own.
