About Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church

Beautiful Savior

In the early 1980's, the City of College Station built a new park on, what was at the time, the edge of town. They named it "Central Park." The church founders purchased property next to the beautiful new park and called the church Beautiful Savior.

Today, the park and the church are centrally located in the community. At Beautiful Savior, God's Word (the Bible) and the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper are at the center of what makes this church beautiful.

The Sunday morning church service has a cross-section of young families, experienced professionals, college students, retired couples, and caring individuals.  The service blends together a liturgical format of hymns, prayers, Scripture readings, sermon, and uplifting music.

Pastor Caleb Schoeneck

Caleb Schoeneck arrived at Beautiful Savior in 2003 after completing his seminary education at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. He has this to say about his call to serve here as a pastor...

"The love for my wife and the children the Lord has blessed me with is second only to my love for Jesus Christ. He has given me tremendous people and incredible opportunities to work with them in the best community imaginable. I pray that God will open doors so that I might encourage families and individuals with the good news that we are forgiven through Jesus Christ our Beautiful Savior."

Pastor Schoeneck grew up in Seattle, Washington.  Prior to serving at Beautiful Savior, he gained experience serving as a vicar (an intern) in Yorba Linda, California; Austin, Texas; and Oostberg, Wisconsin. He has been sharing the good news of Jesus, our Beautiful Savior, with the Brazos Valley for 13 years now.

Vicar Hans Thomford

The "vicar" at Beautiful Savior is a student from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. He serves at our congregation for a year-long internship. Here is what Vicar Thomford had to say when he learned the news that he was assigned to our congregation... "I am very excited and blessed to be assigned as the vicar at at Beautiful Savior for this upcoming year. I have grown up entirely in the Midwest and have never even traveled to Texas, so I am eager to see what ministry is like in College Station. I am from Chesaning, Michigan where my father serves as the pastor and my mother teaches at a Lutheran school. I have two brothers.  I enjoy hunting, fishing, working-out, football, traveling, and hanging out with friends. I look forward to serving God’s people at Beautiful Savior."

The Lutheran Church

The Lutheran church is a Christian denomination that traces its history back to the early 1500's. The teachings of the Lutheran church can be summarized in the words of Martin Luther that say we know and believe that Jesus Christ saves sinners "by grace alone, through faith alone, on Scripture alone."  While Lutheran history is over 500 years old, the message and the church's ministry is current and its message is relevant because it is built on the timeless truths of God's Word, the Bible.

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church is one of over 1,200 churches that are part of the church body known as the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).  The history of these Lutheran churches can be traced back over 150 years ago to three founding churches in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  However, today there are WELS congregations and missions all across the United States and the world.
